Parakeets eggs

Question
My parakeet just laid an egg. She's about two years old.I never put a nest in the cage, the egg is just sitting at the bottom of the cage but she is sitting on it. Should I put a nest in the cage? Will she move the egg? Or should I?

Answer
Hello Andrea and thank you for your post.
If she is a lone Parakeet, that is, if there is no male in the cage, you can leave the egg at the bottom of the cage until SHE quits sitting on it.  If you think that the egg might be fertile, then I would put a nesting box up and put the egg into it, but be sure that she knows where the egg is so that she can continue to incubate it.

Good luck and God Bless.
