Question
I have an umbrella cockatoo that is 1 year and 2 months he was outside with me and when my husband came out he noticed he had an ant trap in his mouth. I have rinsed and fed him alot of water. He seems to be ok he is pooping the water out. It has now been 45 minutes and no loss of balance, but should I watch for other signs? I have also been feeding him bread that he is eating just fine. Please respond soon.

Answer
Hi, Angie,

I'm sorry I'm late answering your question.  I've been sick and in the hospital.

It's probably too late for this response.  Your first action should have been to contact a certified avian veterinarian and/or poison control center immediately upon finding your bird with the ant trap in his mouth.  Posting on this website could have cost precious time.  You need to be sure to supervise your bird at all times when he is outside his cage because they can get into all sorts of things when you aren't looking!  I hope everything is OK with your Too.  If your Too had been poisoned, he would have become very ill very quickly, as it doesn't take long for something to metabolize in a parrots system.
