Linnies and Budgies

Question
Maggie -- Do you know if a male linnie can share a cage with a budgie?  We have a young linnie and  want to get him some companionship.  We don't want another linnie and are thinking of a budgie.  Do you have any advice?   Thanks.

Answer
Hi,

I wouldn't recommend mixing a Lineolated Parakeet with a budgie. To be honest, I'm not sure what the Lineolated Parakeets personalities are like, but I believe they are bigger than budgies. And, in my experience other small parrots (like parrotlets, lovebirds, etc.) can be a lot more territorial/aggressive than budgies can. So the budgie might risk getting injured by the larger (or more aggressive) bird.

If you consider getting a second bird- here is a great article to help you decide (it is written with cockatiels in mind, but the information applies to other bird species as well):

And if you do decide to get a second bird, here is information on quarantine procedures that you will need/want to follow with the new bird:

I hope this all helps.
