Question
This may sound a very silly question but I don't know what to do....
She just flies around and I can't get/catch her to go back in the cage!  I bought her only yesterday -
What can I do...?
thank you

Answer
Hello Gladys, and thank you for your post.

I'd like to ask a few things, first of all, how old is she?  Her age will help determine how easy it will be to train her(the younger the bird, the easier it will be).
Second, is she hand fed?  If she is, that is great as hand fed babies are more likely to be sociable with humans.
Third, how big is her cage?  I use cockatiel size cages because there is more room to them and the smaller birds, such as yours, do not feel as trapped and confined.

Try putting a favorite treat (millet spray or grapes are good treats)  into her cage and then try to catch her with a towel, but do be careful not to break her wings.  She will probably escape from the towel several times so you'll have to chase her a little bit.  She will tire soon and then you can catch her with the towel and put her into her cage. You will probably have to repeat this several times before she gets the idea that her cage is not all that bad and she will always have something good to eat when she is in her cage.
Once she is accostumed to this, she will go into her cage by herself, especially if she sees you put treats into her cage.  Also, do make sure that there are some brightly colored toys(just please, no mirrors, because they will only frustrate your bird and make it mean)hanging from the top of the cage.
Remember that you want to make it interesting for her to go into her cage, so that she'll want to.

One other thing, you might want to get her wings clipped.  She will still be able to fly, but just not as high or as far.  At least until she gets used to you and a routine.

Good luck and God Bless.
