Question
Hi,

I have 1 female lovebird in a cage alone.  She hasnt had eggs in a while a year or so.  Now she has had 15 eggs!  I have waited, taken the eggs out after 10 days or so...changed the cage.. 2 times and the same thing all over again.  I am worried for her health.  She is eating and drinking fine.  Been giving her alot of cherios.  Please help!

Answer
Hi, Kim.  Thanks for posting.

Your lovebird may be continuing to lay eggs because you keep removing the ones she has before she can abandon them on her own.  What you should do is leave any eggs she lays right where she lays them (they will be infertile).  She will eventually abandom them on her own when she realizes they won't hatch.  When you keep removing the eggs she lays, she keeps laying hoping to get a full clutch of about 6 eggs.

Otherwise, to stop her from laying, you'll need to take her to an avian veterinarian for an injection to stop her from laying.
