QuestionWe have had a female cockatiel for a few years now, since she was young. Despite all the time we've had with her, she still hisses and screams at us if we go too close to her. Occasionally she'll let us put her on our hands or shoulders but she'll quickly move after. She will bite but unlike the biting I've heard they're capable of, these don't hurt at all.
Sometimes she'll even fight the toys in her cage.
We're all very worried about her, why does she act this way?
AnswerHello,
It seems like your cockatiel was not hand-fed as a chick, there for, she is very scared, and not yet use to people. Unfortunately, it seems like your cockatiel will never fully trust humans, only because of the way she was raised and her past. You might want to get her another cockatiel though? That way she can communicate with it and have some company around.
Hope this helps,
Carly
