Question
Hello, I am looking to buy a parakeet, and im sure that it will not be tame. To tame it i have read that you need to use fruits as treats to get it to trust you, but if i bring it out of its cage do you think it will fly and be scared, or do you think that i should get its wings clipped so i can have more interaction with it? Any information on how to train my bird would be great. Thanks

Answer
Hello,
Well the first thing you should do when training a parakeet is always get its wings clipped. Whenever you are near it, always be calm and quiet, always make sure its cage is clean and it has fresh food and water, and it will eventually know you are the one caring for it. Training is a different topic..first you will have to make sure your parakeet trusts you. Try putting your index finger under his breast and say "step up", see if he/she will step up and then try and place her onto your shoulder.

It will take some time, but hope this helps,
Carly ;)
