Question
Hello,
We are currently in the process of purchasing a new budgie. The question I have is, we want to get 2, but dont know if getting 2 would be a good idea. I have heard different things...one being that, if you get 2 budgies, they will want no human contact, then again i have heard its better to get 2. What would you reccomend?

Thanks!

Answer
If you get two budgies, they will be harder to tame down. And most likely, they will prefer the company of each other of humans (they will be more bonded to their birdie-partner and will not view their humans as their "mate")

However, in the wild birds interact with lots of different birds, and thus in captivity can interact with more than just one bird or human. However, it can take more time to tame the birds down. And if not handled regularly, paired birds are more likely to revert back to acting "wild."

However, if you keep a single bird by themselves they can sometimes become extremely lonely. If you keep a single budgie (aka: parakeet), I recommend at least two hours out of their cage daily. You can get portable playpens so that your bird can feel like they are being included in the "flock activities" and follow you around from room to room while you watch TV, work on the computer or do chores.

I hope this helps answer your question.
