Question
hi i am new to this site and i am in need of a answer my question is i have a young budgie i had him for not quite 2 months and hes a very excitable bird in the 3rd week i had him he broke a blood feather while i was giving him food and water and then a week after that he was back at vets for 2nd time in a week for another broken blood feather now i have got some advice for taming  and was told to put my hand in cage and just let hit sitt here till he calms down then slowly move in more and more gradually i been doing that a week and a day now hes still not used to my hand hes not as bad as he used to be for flopping round he does still jump around tho once ive got his dishes out of cage and putting them back in but i am assuming its cause its only been a week but time is getting shorter everytime i do it but my question is  is there anything else i should be doing to get him to trust me? tomorrow i want to let him out of his cage and let him explore in my bathroom while i clean his cage(i clean the tray daily but not the plastic sides of bottom)it needs it but i been scared to remove the bottom just cause i been told hes a excitable bird and dont want him breaking any more feathers

Answer
Hello,

The only way I have ever gotten a bird to trust me is to take them out of cage by force several times a day for short periods, after a week I had a my budgie tamed and on another note I have tamed a six month old cockatiel in a week with this method also. Take the bird out in your hand or in a light cloth if hes a biter, (his wings must be clipped this is a pointless effort trying to tame him), after you get him out go to a different room... if he sees his cage he will only fly back into/onto it, sit him onto yuor arm/finger and talk to him, pet him also... if hetrys to move away pet him from the side hes running off to... keep doing this... he wont run for long, do this several times a day for a week and unless he is very highly strung he will tame down.
