I am sad to say that my cockatiel passed away earlier today and a lovebird needed a home so I took her in. Could you recommend some sites for me to get info needed to take care of my little lovebird Peaches?

Hi,

I'm so sorry to hear about your cockatiel's death.  Make sure that you disinfect his cage (if you are planning to put your new lovebird in it). Throw away all wood toys/perches that your cockatiel used and get new ones (since diseases can live in wood and it is harder to disinfect wood completely).

Also disinfect all plastic toys in a mild bleach water solution (allow to dry completely before giving to your lovebird) or a vinegar/water solution (1:8).

It is also important to try and figure out what caused your cockatiels death (if you don't know), so that you can prevent the same thing happening to your lovebird. Make sure that the lovebird is eating a good diet, and is kept clean/safe and gets regular/annual vet visits- and your new little one will be on the right track towards a new, long life with you.
