Baby Pigeon information

Question
Hi. When at my local 7-11 today (I live in Las Vegas), the cashier told me there was an injured bird outside, as she was told by someone who came in. I told her I would call animal control to have it picked up, as they pick up pigeons all the time who have injuries or sicknesses. I went out to look for it and found a baby pigeon hiding behind the phone booth. I got a box, placed him in it and made the call. They said if they came and got it, they would have it taken to be put to sleep, since they don't have the facilities to take care of birds anymore. I told them I would take him home and see what I could do for him. I have raised ringneck doves, mourning doves, parakeets, cockatiels and even a sparrow that fell from our tree with no feathers. He lived about 7 years and sang to me every day, so I thought I could handle this guy. Truth is, I am not sure. He won't eat, won't drink, and I have no idea his age, to know exactly what he needs. He has what appears to be almost all his feathers on his back and nice sized wings. Under the wings on his back there are few feathers and some bare skin, his tail is short (maybe 1" long?), his head has most the feathers of different lengths and textures. The pet store was closed so I purchased some box baby cereal and some jar food for sweetness, hoping that would interest him. I put seed in the cage and he stares at it. He doesn't appear to have any injuries that I can see, but seems like he is lonely and doesn't care if he does well or not. I had a neighbor who hand raised Cockatoos and had the incubator and all, and did the hand feedings round the clock. He was the one that told me about cereal and jar food. It worked on all the other birds I have taken care of, but I honestly don't know what to do with him. Is there anything I can do for him to help him? Do you know of anyone in the Las Vegas area that takes care of pigeons, that may want to take him that has more experience? I have cats in my home and finding a safe place away from them is hard..without closing him up in a bathroom where it gets too warm during the day. I think I have taken on too much with him, but at the same time, I can't bring myself to have animal control destroy him. I need help. Thanks for reading this book..

Answer
Hello Michele and thank you for your post.
I am in Michcigan and I don't know anybody in Las Vegas that is equipped to take care of this poor baby.  It does sound like (s)he is very young, and possibly in shock.  Does the bird try to fly at all?  If so, then this is a good sign.  If not, then the baby may be sick and, as much as I hate to say it, might have to be euthanized to keep it from suffering.
I have checked online, and this is the only thing that I could come up with.  You might want to give them a call, perhaps they can take this baby.
