Why is my birds feather falling out?

Question
hi, my name is Chen, I'm 16 years old. I have a cockatiel about 1 year old and it's been a month since his arrival. I recently noticed that he have many feathers falling out (about 10-20 of those small flossy ones and 1 or 2 big feathers today). His feather on his body looks fine; no showing of skin or anything yet, but I think the increasing amount of feather is falling off. His behavior and eating habits seem normal, I do let him out to play a bit each day. I wonder why is his feather falling off like this?

Answer
Hey Chen,

Your bird is just going through a type of "molting". This will happen about twice a year, when they lose a bunch of feathers and grow little pin feathers. These pin feathers will eventually fall off, and grow in the new feather. It is perfectly normal.
