Question
Hi I am thinking about getting a quaker parakeet as a compantion but still have lots of questions.

I havny been able to find out how big they are excatly from what my  pet store told me they are bigger then a cockatiel..... but how much bigger?

Also how much aproximitly would one cost in canada?

Do they have the ability to mimic? can they pick things up with there feet?

When handfed are they good compantions?

With the proper care how long aprox would one live?

Would it try to attack my cockatiel when out of cage?

Answer
Hello, Asks.  Thanks for posting your questions.

There are many websites on the internet regarding quaker parakeets.  If you do a search on Google for Quaker parakeets, you'll find lots of additional information.

Quaker parakeets are approximately 12 inches long, but have a bigger/more robust body than a cockatiel (body size is about twice that of a tiel).

I have no idea how much these parrots would cost in Canada.  Each breeder/pet shop can charge what they want.  In my area, they run about $100-$150 each.

Yes, they can become good talkers.  All parrots can pick things up with their feet, including quakers.  They can be good companions if they are handfed and kept tame by their humans.  Handfeeding alone does not guarantee tameness...you have to play/work with birds every day to keep them tame.

Life span depends on genetics and how well the bird is cared for during it's lifetime.  My quaker could live 5 years; yours could live 15 years or more.  It just depends on many factors!

I could not tell you if a quaker would attack your tiel when out of the cage.  It depends on the disposition/socialization of each bird.
