Senegal Stressed?

Question
I recently took over care of two parrots - an African Grey and a Senegal who'd been with the same owner for 25 years in the same house.  After 5 days I came home to find the Senegal had pass away.  I was very careful about all the environmental concerns - smells, aerosols, smoke, feeding, cage environment, food, etc..   I have no clue other than stress... the birds seemed in excellent shape and the prior owner noted no health issues and took excellent care.  The parrot that passed away was more aggressive, didn't like people as much and I'm wondering if the stress of a move like this - to a noisier home with a family of 6 from a quite home of one where he'd been for 25 years could have done it?  Any ideas, comments, help?  I'm obviously feeling terrible about this and having done bird rescue in the past I've never had an issue before.

Answer
Melanie,

I'm so sorry for your loss.

A move to a new home with so many changes can absolutely stress a bird.  I also know that there are certain diseases which stress can bring out in a bird.  However, a bird will not succumb to a disease in five days without showing other signs of illness.  Are you certain the Senegal was eating and drinking?

If you really need to know the answer, you should have a necropsy done (that is where an avian vet does an autopsy to determine the cause of death).  Of course, chances are that you have already buried the bird and it is too late for this.

All we can hope is that it was his time to pass.
