Question
My one yr old female cockatiel managed to cut her self w/ a
scissors last night, near her beak. She bled a little, wouldn't eat and wan't to sleep. This morning it looks like she has chipped/broken area of her right lower beak. She is having difficulty eating. She is taking baby bird formula from a syringe. She is taking water. Will her beak grow back?
Does she need to see a vet, or can I wait and see how she progresses. Thank you for your help.

Answer
Oh, yes, I have seen this before.

What I would do is take her to the vet as soon as possible. Her beak will grow back, but she must be in some serious pain. A bird's beak is very sensitive and if a bird is bleeding, they can die; any amount of blood loss from a bird can kill them.

She may be ok, but taking her to the vet as soon as possible would be the best. We also do not want the beak to get infected. This would be considered an emergency.

Hope that helps,
Carly ;)
