My conures

Question
Hi! I have two nanday conures. They are both pets. I have no idea what their sex is. I was told one is a male though. The other I am not certain. I've only had him for 2 months. I was just wondering if they are both males would they fight if they got close to one another? At first they were timid around each other but they seem to be getting closer and I don't want them to fight. I've heard of two males fighting. Is this true? Thank you.

Answer
Hello Des,

Before putting your birds together the new one must be seen by an avian veterinarian. It is not worth the risk to either bird to skip this step. If you have not already, take your new bird to an avian veterinarian before letting the two birds meet.

Two male conures can get along although you will want to supervise interactions. You would need a DNA test to determine with certainty what sex you have for each bird.

I would not recommend putting them in the same cage, as most bird cages are not large enough for a single parrot. So interactions should be on play gyms etc.

Also I encourage you to continue learning all you can about parrot care and behavior.

Enjoy your new friend!
