Question
DEAR MAGGIE,
I know I should take my bird to the vet but I wont be able to take her until Saturday. She has been sick for two days so far this being the second day.Anyway I know its not super super bad(no discharge, no falling from perch, no throwing up, etc.), but basically she is a very active bird and yesterday I noticed she wasnt herself. She has been sleeping more and very fluffed up and such. I know this is a sign of sickness. She is eating but not as much and she is drinking even less but i tried to give her fruit and lettuce so she will get water from there. Also I know heat is important,so i put a lamp near her cage to warm it up and peices of clothe on the bottom of her cage. I cant tell if she has respitory problems though, because she isnt making any clicking noices when she breathes but her tail is bobbing up and down slightly when she breathes. I read that humidity such as a vaporisor is good if they have breathing difficulty so i put  a little vapor just in case. Thank God, she is doing better today and is much more active but still im keeping her warm and stuff. But her tail keeps moving up and down when she breathes and i cant tell: DOES THAT MEAN SHE IS BREATHING HEAVILY? IF SO WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP HER? SHOULD I CONTINUE USING THAT VAPORIZOR(IT SEEMED TO HELP BECAUSE HER BROWN COLOR WAS RESTORED ABOVE HER BEAK)?

THANKS MAGGIE!

Answer
Hi,

Unfortunately since I volunteer my time and services to helping answer questions on allexperts- it means that I have to do this in my spare time and have been working so much the last week that I haven't had time to respond to people. Hopefully you got your bird to the vet and she is doing better. In the future though, I would not recommend asking asking medical-related questions to someone online (unless they are a vet). Birds are very, very senstive and sometimes what might be fine for other animals, could kill a bird.... so I only recommend seeking medical or treatment advice from a qualified avian vet.

Good Luck and I hope your little girl is doing better and on the road to recovery now. :)
