Question
hey.

i have 2 budgies that have successfully raised 2 little budgies.
1 is about a week older than the other.
the older 1 seems old enough to leave the nesting box he is fully feathered but cant fly yet is that normal??

also the mother as stopped going in there during the night and only very seldom checks up on them, is this because shes weaning them off her???

i have placed the nesting box up high in the aviary should i have placed it on the ground before they started breeding?? do they nest up high in the wild???

Answer
Hello,  First the nesting box should be closer to the floor the babies often take the plunge when they can not yet fly and well can kill themselfs if its very high above the hard ground. Make sure the other chick is still being fed thou...you can fluff the feathers on his neck to see if his crop is fullo or not a few times a day if it is mostly empty and hes too young to get out and feed himself and sounds like he is you can get some handfeeding formula and feed him a two or three times aday until he is fully featthered and able to feed himself.
