lovebird egg laying

Question
i have 2 female (i think) lovebirds. they have laid 5 eggs. how common is this and how do i discourage this. they have been nesting on these eggs for about a month and i worry about them psychologically.

Answer
It is normal for female birds to lay unfertilized eggs. It is just their natural, instictive drive to mate coming out. Let them have the eggs for a couple of weeks ( this lets them feel like they have 'done' something so they wont be so inclined to lay again soon) and then take the eggs out of the cage!

If you are not for certain that they are both females, then you should poke a needle through the eggs after they are laid to prevent them from developing. Unless you want them to hatch and for you to have babies.

Blessings,
Marie
