5 WEEK OLD BUFF ORPHINGTON CHICK

Question
Tonight, I found one of my five week old buff orphington chicks with a bloody eye, and blood around the neck.  A friend suggested I put hydrogen peroxide on the eye and dab a triple antibiotic ointment on the eye also.  Could you advise if this is the treatment you would suggest.  Also, what is the best way to wash all the blood off.  I have separated it from the flock already.  Thank you.

Answer
Hello Dena,

Do not use anything on the eye which is not specifically for chickens. I suggest simply flushing it with a weak salt water solution. It is also worth getting her to the vets as if the eye is destroyed it may need removing.

Thanks for your question, please use the question code next time- I answered as I thought this may be some sort of emergency.
