Question
Right now I have a juvenile leopard gecko about a month old that i'm keeping in a 10 gallon tank. I was wondering if when it gets to big for that tank I could keep it in one of those plastic storage containers (the kind people usee to put decorations in etc.) its a foot tall a foot wide and 2 feet long-with all the things she needs of course. would her heat lamp melt the plastic or something?  would she be happy in it?  or do i need a real tank?

Answer
Hi Abigail
Yes you can buy a "sweater box" to keep your leopard gecko in

You would be using an under the tank heater underneath a portion of the box/tub for heat

Leos actually need belly heat more than they do heat from above so your Leo would most likely benefit from the change

You need to poke/burn holes in the sides of the Sterlite box for air
I use a BBQ fork and set it on the gas burner and it pretty much melts holes in the plastic when it is red hot
Please be very careful when doing this or have someone do it for you

I usually poke around 20 holes that are about one inch apart in the 2 long sides of the plastic box and leave the snap on lid on

You just need to watch for condensation -if you see water collecting on the sides of the container on under the lid-then you need more air holes

Paper towels work very well as a substrate and you can decorate as you please using silk and plastic plants and driftwood etc.
Don't forget the moist hide
:)

I hope that this has helped
