Blood tumor

Question
My bearded dragon started to form a lump on her head a few months ago, It continued to gradually grow and now it is around an inch and a half in diameter and about three fourths of an inch high. I took her to the vet about two weeks ago and the vet told me that she has a blood filled cyst or tumor that is connected to a main artery, she quoted surgery at $400. but said that there was a very low chance of her servicing because of the blood loss and the chances of them being able to caughterize the artery in time is very slim because they don't know where it leads in to the cyst. I have been giving her vitamin c to help her produce more blood, but when i got up this morning there was blood splattered all over her cage and a huge puddle under her perch. I once again called the vet who said there was nothing I could do, but I really am just looking for a way to comfort her. Is there anything I could give her for pain, and anything I could change in her habitat, maybe keep it cooler?

Answer
Hello Chelsie,
Wow that is very sad.  I have to agree, if the vet did analyze where the tumore is & if it is near the main artery, the chances are slim, yes.  Can they drain it any though at all?  Are they sure that it is attached to the main artery?  If it is not, then, there could be a chance of it being removed without her bleeding to death.
Do they know what in the world caused that?  Geez, I have seen & heard of similar instances, but that is pretty large.
Is she eating at all?
How old is she?
How warm is her enclosure?  I would not change too much in her tank really because that could cause additional stress on her.
Perhaps he could prescribe a painkiller to help her out if she appears to be in pain.  Other than that, just try to keep her comfortable, & happy.  Spend extra time with her, & hold her at night.  Enjoy the time that you have left with her.
Please let me know how she is doing!

Hello Chelsie,

I am happy that she loved the yogurt, & that she got some nutrition into her.  I hope that she stays in good spirits.  I am sorry that she has this condition & that there was more that could be done.
You could look into getting some Serrapeptase, which is dried silkworms enzyme.  It tends to help with swelling, pain & discomfort.  I am surprised that the vet did not give her anything for pain.  They can have prednisone or corticoid steroids to help manage pain.
You can contact me at  Drache613@tampabay.rr.com   if you need anything at all.
