leopard gecko stopped eating

Question
QUESTION: Hi, my son's leopard gecko has seemed to have stopped eating the last 2 weeks. We have 2 in the cage and the other seems to be doing fine and recently shed, it is older, bigger and we have had him longer. This one has seemed thin from when we first got him and continues to get smaller we have tried crickets, mealworms and recently lizard type baby food. He did eat 3 mealworms about 1 week ago but then i noticed he had thrown them up. I think cage temp is fine because our other gecko seems to be doing fine. Do you have any ideas what could be wrong with him or how to get him to eat? Thanks

ANSWER: Hello Holly,

How much of a size difference is there?  Do you have 2 males, or a male & a female or two females?
Sometimes when you house a larger one with a smaller one, it does not do well because the larger one may bully him around.  Are you feeding them separately?
They are very sensitive reptiles & get stressed very easily.  You might want to consider putting him in his own enclosure.  Especially if they are both males, that will not be a good idea to house 2 males together.
Since he is not eating, you can get some chicken or turkey babyfood to try & feed him with a plastic dropper or a plastic syringe.

QUESTION: The bigger Gecko is probably twice the size of the smaller one.  We have not noticed any bullying as they share the coconut shell frequently.  We were told these were 2 female Geckos.  I do not feed them separately.  Do we force they mouth open to feed or do wait for it to attempt to eat the food off of the syringe?  Is putting it on the end of their nose for them to lick off a good idea?  The smaller Gecko has rarely opened its eyes the last couple of days. It also looks dehydrated but water is available.

Thanks.

Answer
Hello Holly,

Wow that is a big size difference.  If they are 2 females there shouldn't be a problem.
You probably should try to feed them separately though right now as it sounds like the smaller one is not getting enough food.
Or you could get a small critter keeper & set it up just for the smaller one right now.
Well, you can try to put the food on the end of the nose to see if she will willingly lick it off of her nose.  Otherwise, you will need to get a q-tip ready to get the mouth open so you can quickly squirt in a little bit of food.

Let me know how she is doing.
