QUESTION: We found an injured frog in our back yard and want to know what kind of frog it is. The internet has not helped us at all in identification.  It looks like some type of leapord frog.  We live in Tx.  Can you help us with it's identity?

ANSWER: Luke,          Did you find him in water because he looks like a European green toad. I need to know if he has webbed feet. In the mean time. I have an expert that works at one of my other stores that is going to take a look at your pic tomorrow and with your info about his feet I will have a more solid answer for you. Sorry it took so long to answer. I was trying to get with her today, but she didn't stop in my store. , Tina

QUESTION: He does have webbed feet, however his feet got severed so they are dangeling from his legs.  No blood but just mangled.  It looks like he something tried to eat him from the legs up.  He was in a hole by our sprinklers with water.  He looks like a Rio Grande Leopard Frog but his nose is very long and according to the pictures on the internet of the Rio Grande Leopard frog thier noses are small.  We are going to keep him until perhaps his feet heal and he can hop better.  We got him some crickets and gold fish to eat.  Hopefully, he will make it and we will release him into the pond near our house.  Thanks  for checking for us!  We are trying to do the right thing for him/ or her.

Answer
Luke,          Yup, thats what he is. Though animals adapt to disabilities better than we do please keep him. He will probably do better with you. He won't have the speed to get away from predators. You can't release him til spring anyway if you brought him in. ( i hope you did) Maybe you can , but I hope you keep him.If he is weak you can try to feed him blood worms that you can get from your pet shop. High in protein to get him back on his feet right now. I am not sure he can catch the feeder fish. He prob can't catch them. Crickets maybe. You can try some wax worms high in fat... like taking him to mc donalds for a cheeseburger. Very soft worm.Try frozen krill and kelp. Please keep me informed on what is going on with him if you can. Good luck, tina You can also get cubes of kelp or algae from your baby for veggies. Try cutting up romaine or collards or (kale!!!) good for vitamin a.
