turtles and mercury

Question
Can a turtle get mercury poisoning if they break the thermometer in their tank? What could we do if they can get it?

Answer
I am presuming here but I would think it would b completely plausible that they could get Mercury poisoning.  Now then with that being said, I believe it would be highly unlikely that a broken thermometer would be able of causing such a poisoning due to the thermometer being so small.  I would also presume that if you had a filter running and changed it out immediately after the accident occurred there wouldn't be an issue.  To be on the safe side I would consult your local Vet.  Sorry I couldn't be more help.
