Question
QUESTION: ok a raised the temp about a few days ago,how long should it be until i try to start offering food to him again?..(note) I live in Wisconsin and its very cold during the winter, thats y i have to keep his red lamp on during the night. do you think i should still find a local vet? do you know if they are expensive?

ANSWER: I have no idea about the vets in Wisconsin, so I can't help you there.  You need to clear the infection (if there is one) before trying the food.  You are at a very hard place right now.  You have, at best, a snake that needs better caging and husbandry, at worst, a sick snake which needs better caging and husbandry.  The caging and heating you need could run $500 unless you build something yourself, and in a 1 br I have to wonder how much space you have anyway...  Start with phone calls to find a vet that sees snakes.  It should not cost more than $75 for the visit and the meds you need.  I could probably get the meds and the visit here for about $40 if that helps give you an idea.  If the vet recommends Baytril as the antibiotic ask him if you can get Amikacin (sic) instead.  I have NEVER had good luck with Baytril and burms (and I've tried it many times).

QUESTION: well i wont be getting him no bigger cage any time soon especially not in small BR.. i think he's fine in the cage he's in for the time being..i might of been exaggerating a little of his length. i think hes about 9 feet give or take..I have correct his heating issue, But i will call around for a vet to see what going on in case its not a temp problem. thank you for all you help.

Answer
OK, good luck!  Please make sure you ask yourself the tough questions you need to ask.  YOu have a pet who depends on you to take care of him.  Yeah, he's just a snake, but he's still something you chose to own.  If your housing situation doesn't give you the ability to do that anymore it might be time to find him a home w/ someone who can.  Maybe you could trade him in for another baby once he's healthy.  Then you'd still have a burmese, but one you have the space for.  Ihave seen some people turn a closet into pretty cool cages before-just a thought.

Again-good luck!
