leopard gecko mouth lump

Question
QUESTION: I have a leopard gecko that has recently developed a red-ish lump/bump on the side of the lower part of his mouth. If I had to describe it, I'd say it looks like a large sized red pimple. He still seems hungry and has eaten, drinks, and seems otherwise normal. Also strange is his one eye (opposite side of the mouth problem) has some type of clear fluid that will swell, and he'll lick it off. Almost like a teardrop.
Nothing has changed, Temp is good, same food, paper towel lining tank for substrate. The tank is divided in 2 (after we found out we had 2 males we obviously had to partition them off) and our other gecko is perfectly fine. No problems whatsoever. Any ideas about the lump and the eye fluid? I'm thinking perhaps a parasite? Can this be treated over the counter?

ANSWER: Hello Misa,

Did the males fight?  Could the eye possibly have gotten injured?
I would suggest for the mouth, that you get some betadine & dilute it down a little bit, then swab the mouth with the solution to clean it out & ensure that it is not getting infected.
The eye, does it look swollen or infected?  Does he maybe have any retained shed on it?  You can get some saline solution to drop into his eyes for a week or two, in order to help that.  If it is infected you can get some antibiotic eye ointment from here:

The ointment is pretty good so if there is any infection, it should clear that up fairly quickly.

Are you leaving any crickets in the tank with them overnight?  Crickets can bite them, so, if you are  you will need to remove them before you go to bed just in case they may be biting him.

The lump on the lower part of his mouth is most likely not parasites, but an abscess of some sort that is infected.  I am thinking he could have been injured by the other male initially & it festered, getting infected.
If that does not begin to clear up, he may need a short antibiotic cycle to clear it up since it sounds like it is already infected.
How are his stools, runny, smelly or normal?

Let me know how things go.

QUESTION: Tracie -
Thank you so much for the help! I really appreciate the super quick response.
We have had the geckos for about 2 years - got them as juveniles. As soon as they became of age, we quickly realized they were both males, as one would no longer go into the shared cave and had a nip on his tail. We quickly partitioned them and they have been fine ever since (over a year). Since we feed our guys crickets, mealworms, and wax worms... I was concerned maybe our guy got a parasite from the cricket. Now that you mention it though...there was one cricket in there that was thriving during the same time. Possible he did bite him. It's only been about a week since we've noticed this. Looking as it...it's possible it's an abscess. As for the eye... there is no other visible injury. He actually just shed 2 nights ago. This time he didn't eat the shed, but I read that's not entirely bad if he's well fed. Aside from he issues he's fat (body & tail), active and alert. I'll try the saline and betadine. I'll post in a few days to check in.
Thanks again for all the help! It's invaluable!!

Answer
Hello Misa,

Great!  Let me know how he is doing.  Definitely, if a cricket bit him, that can cause a nasty bite for sure.  I hope that the betadine will help clear it up.
Perhaps he got a little bit of shed stuck on his eye.  The saline solution should help him out.
I am happy to hear that he is at least eating well!:-))
