Question
QUESTION: My female bearded dragon (8 years old)hasn't eaten solid food for approximately 4 weeks.  All she will do is drink water.  She is getting so thin I don't think she will live much longer.  What should I do?

ANSWER: First I would check all the heating and lighting elements.  The heat should be at least 85 in the ambient and 95-100 in the basking and the UV should be replaced every six months.  These are the number one causes of Dragons going off feed.  Also this time of year is when they go into hibernation naturally so it maybe that as well but if she is dropping weight like that I would be concerned.  Feel free to grab the mini ebook on bearded dragons on my site.  If the above is correct then email me back and we will look at other options.

QUESTION: Hi John,  First of all thank you so much for your email.  I appreciate the fact that you would spend the time to help a bearded dragon and caretaker that you have never met.  I ended up taking Nony to a vet nearby.  They did a few tests and discovered that she had kidney disease, was diabetic as well as having some sort of fungal disease.  After taking blood she took a turn for the worst and they recommended that I have her put to sleep.  I wanted what was best for her, so I told them to let her go peacefully.  I miss her very much.   My concern now is to make sure that I do my very best to take care of Mufasa her long time friend/cagemate.  (They grew up together....They could be related but I am not certain.)   I have downloaded your mini ebook and will start from there.  I am very concerned about his welfare.  I know he will miss her.  I just want to make sure that he doesn't have to deal with the issues that she has.

Answer
I'm feel for you and the loss of a pet. I think addressing the issues we have discussed will help. I would also recommend reading Solving the Calcium Conundrum which is available on the site as well it goes in depth in calcium and feeding. If you ever have any questions feel free to contact me via the website or here which ever is easier.
