Question

lizard
Hi Pam,

We rescued this lizard from our cats in Southern Sonora, Mexico.  We have tried to research what he is and his diet so we can nurse him back to health.  We can't find anything on him at all.  I am attaching a picture to help.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Billy

Answer
I believe you have a malnourished and dehydrated baby iguana.  Give him a good soak in lukewarm water.  He should not have any particulate substrate on the bottm of that tank, use newspaper or paper towel.  Remove the bugs, he is an obligate herbivore and needs dark leafy calcium rich greens like collards, turnip tops, mustard greens, dandelion greens.  He may need to be fed baby foods if he's weak.  Offer him Gerber firsts sweet potato and/or butternut squash.  Mashing grapes or fresh watermelon or berries like blueberries or raspberries will also get moisture into him.  I suggest you also get him checked by a good reptile veterinarian.
