Bearded Dragon Swollen Tongue

Question
My beardie has a swollen tongue.  He won't eat unless I maneuver the crickets towards his mouth. He is drinking his water but not really touching his meal worms.  He is about 12 inches long in total length.  When we first got him he was pretty small and has seem to have grown really fast.  He hides under his rock all day and doesn't come out till night to bask.  His temp during the day is around 100-110 degrees.  I don't know what to do!!  Thanks for your help!

Answer
Hello Jennifer,

Let's review your tank setup to see if anything needs to be changed up.
What type & brand of UVB light are you using, is it a fluorescent tube bulb or a compact/coil light?  How close is the UVB light to him?
What type of thermometer do you use, a stick on type, a digital probe or a temp gun?
Do you use a bright white light for his basking light, or is it a colored bulb?
Are you supplementing calcium 5 days per week for him?
It isn't recommended to feed mealworms on a regular basis, as they have too hard of an outer shell & can contribute to impaction.  Some better choices for his size are phoenix worms, or butterworms, as well as crickets appropriately sized for him as staples.
How long has his tongue been swollen?  Is it sticking out of his mouth at the end a little bit?  Does his jaw seem to align properly?  Based on that one symptom, that could be the beginning of metabolic bone disease due to improper UVB or lack of UVB lighting & calcium.
Can you post a picture of him for me, & his setup too?
