Tail rot??

Question
Underside of tail
Underside of tail
QUESTION: Hi again Tracie! The website did not let me do another follow-up so i started
fresh. Ok his tail seems ok right now. The underside of the tail does not have
a long stretch of dark skin like the top side of the tail. The underside of the
tail only has less than a centimeter of dark tissue at the tip, so i found this a
bit unusual. So it does not seem like tail rot? I just want to make sure. I
included a picture of the underside of his tail so you can note the difference
from the top of the tail. I am so sorry about the bad quality of the camera.
How long should I continue using the Betadine and antibiotic ointment for?
Thank you

ANSWER: Hello Nadia,

That is fine, they only allow so many follow ups.  :-))
No, that is definitely not tail rot.  It looks like an impending shed for him, poor guy.  LOL  It looks like healthy tissue thank goodness.
If you want to continue with the antibiotic ointment for a few more days that is fine, but he doesn't necessarily need the betadine baths anymore.

He should be doing just fine now.  Great job on getting him all fixed up.  Let me know how his shed turns out.

QUESTION: Ok i am so relieved it is not tail rot!! OMG he did start to shed! His snout has
started to shed now. Is it normal for him to rub his head on the floor
occasionally? i recently noticed this when i held him in my hand. It seemed like
he was itchy and starting rubbing his head on my hand. I thot he was gonna bite
me lol. You have been of so much help! thank u!

Answer
Hello Nadia,

I thought he would be shedding here real quick.  Yes, it is normal & entertaining actually, for them to rub their head all of their branches & the floor as well.
No, it is pretty funny.  What you can do when he starts rubbing his head & face on your hand, is to start petting him on the side of his head area & that will really get him going!  LOL  It does get itchy for them.
He definitely wont bite though, he is just trying to get that skin off.
I am glad that I could help out & that it was nothing serious.  :-))
