Question
I have a Mourning Gecko that is probably a month or two old, she lives in a 30gal tank with earth(the kind you mix with water to expand)floor and Branch/plants. she get crickets, some fruit and has a water dish, heat light, mist water, and i recently tried to give her some crested gecko diet but i dont think shes eaten any. All of a sudden today we found her laying on her back not moving, we touched her and she didnt run away, we finally got her scooped up on a spoon and she moved enough to climb off. I have her in a smaller cage now still near her heat lamp though.what can i do? I have a vet appointment for monday but am worried in the mean time, they think it could be calcium, how do i give her some myself? I read somewhere yogurt could work? or i thought maybe i could mix powder and water and spray a drop for her to drink of the side like she does..please help!

Answer
Give her a little peach baby food with calcium + D3 mixed liberally into it (don't overdo it--D3 is toxic if overdosed).  Use an eyedropper to put a drop of it on the end of her snout to lick off.  Do this once an hour for a day, then maybe 3 times a day until the appointment.

Raise the temperatures a bit--maybe to 85F ambient, 95F basking.  Keep the humidity high, and mist often.

Do not handle her, it's extremely stressful--avoid stressing her as much as possible.  Keeping her in the cage she is accustomed to may be wiser than putting her into a small cage, since being in a new environment adds stress.

If she pulls through for you, in the future, dust all of her insects with a calcium + vitamin D3 supplement.  Crickets are high in phosphorus--they must be balanced with extra calcium.

CGD is a great food for these guys.  Mix her favorite fruit with it at first, to convince her to try it.  Once she'll eat it, eliminate the fruit and just offer CGD to round out her diet.  CGD also has the right amount of calcium and D3.
