Question
QUESTION: My Beardie has been burying himself in the sand the last 2 days.  Do you know why?

ANSWER: Hello April,

Is he burying himself completely in the sand?  When, during the day or at night?
What type & brand of UVB are you using?  Is it a flourescent tube bulb or a compact or coil light?
What are you measuring the temps with, a stick on thermometer, a digital probe or a temp gun?
What are your temps?
What type of basking light are you using, a bright white light or a colored light?

QUESTION: He hides under his tree or bowl, during the day and at night.  We use an All living things brand bulb. not a coil.  We have 2 different typpes of thermometers. a digital and a dial.    He has  2 different  lights during the day.  One that is cooler than the other.  In a 100 gallon  tank, one for basking and one side is cooler...  At night he has a night light that is red...We live in Texas and the temp inside our house has been getting to about 80.  I didn't know if that had something to do with it since it has been over 100 degrees the past few days...

Answer
Hello April,

Hm, the All living Things brand bulb is not a UVB light.  It is just a basking bulb.  He will need to have a UVB light.  The best ones here in the US are the Reptisun 10 flourescent bube bulb, the Reptisun 5 flourescent tube bulb, or the Arcadia D3 flourescent tube bulb.
When you get a flourescent tube bulb, you will need to place that directly beside the basking light to help protect the eyes.
Overnight however, he does not need any lighting.  The red light will disturb his sleep cycles, too.  Unless it is getting below 55 at night, then right now, he does not need any heating at all.
Good you are using a digital probe.  Does it have a wire with a probe at the end that has a sensor in it?  You have to be able to place it on the basking spot in order to make sure the basking spot is the correct temps.
As long as he has a cooler area of around 78-82 then he should be able to thermoregulate.  His basking should be 95-110 & the overall ambient temps should not exceed 85.

Let me know how things are going.
