Baby Lizard
Baby Lizard
Hi my son has found two baby lizards in our yard in Southern California. One is obviously a blue belly but the one he just found looks very different. I is gold and like a light brown and it has no blue on its belly it is all white. It seems to be very tame as it lets my son hold it and does not try to get away. I have attached a picture. If you could please let me know what kind of lizard this is and also do they just eat crickets like the blue belly? Thank you.

Answer
That is either a juvenile or cold female they usually are less colorful than males. Yes they will eat appropriate size crickets and mealworms. I would also advise keeping them with some type of UVB and providing a calcium supplement if you plan to keep them in captivity. They will generally live many years in captivity and do make for interesting pets.
