leo has blak tip on tail

Question
i noticed about a month ago, the very tip of my leo's tail had turned black. at first i thought it had to do with leaving the crickets in with him and they were nibbling on his tail. yesterday, i noticed the black coloration had progressed. what is causing this? is it the crickets or him not doing a complete shed? thanks

Answer
Hello Wanda,

The tip of the tail being black is probably either a retained shed or cricket injury.  I would not leave any uneaten crickets in with him over night or they will bite him.  Crickets are very carnivorous.  He could have some necrosis from the bites, too.
Do you have a humid hide/cave for him?  He does need the moisture for aid with shedding.
Do you have some neosporin or polysporin you could put on the end?  That needs to be treated so it doesn't get infected.
