Question
QUESTION: Hi Diane,Taylor here again,My beardie has been doing great. Today she hasn't been so active,In face she has been sleeping in her basking spot all day today and only got up to eat then went right back to sleep. At first I though it could be the Mercury Vapor bulb I got her so I took that out and put in her old light set up but still she did the same thing. Could she be going into that hibernation cycle? She doesn't seem to be in pain or anything and if I make a noise she will wake up and look at me. Another thing to note is it has been storming really hard here with lighting. I didn't know if the weather could have an effect on her. Thanks again for your help.

ANSWER: Hi Taylor,
LOL!!! You worry too much!!  With the MV, since they put out more uvb, she is "sucking it all up" because she needs it!!  You may want to add another basking area (basking temps) that does not have the uvb...just a halogen bulb or basking bulb... With the Mega ray, they do reach their UVB levels(yes, they know) sooner than with other uvb sources but still require the basking temperatures for proper digestion, etc. For my iguanas I provide the MEGA RAY in one area and adjacent to that area, there is just a basking area.  Each will spend a few hours off and on under the MV and other times under just the basking light.
Your beardie is too young for brumation..that doesn't happen until they are about a yr old.  Many don't brumate though.
Reptiles are very smart...in the wild, when a storm is coming, they will generally eat more and bask more for the days they won't be able to warm up in the sun.  When its storming outside, they still know it even though they are indoors their natural instincts still kick in.  If its raining here, chances are none of my igs will eat that day, even though they can't see the outside to know what the weather is doing.
Its a good idea for you to start keeping a journal of how she acts with storms, etc and note any changes with her. When she acts the same way again, you can go back to the journal and see if you see a pattern. This comes in handy as she gets older with breeding seasons, burmation, egg laying(yes, they can and do lay eggs even without a male).

QUESTION: I know I do,She is like my child and I dont want anything wrong or have them suffer. Lol thank you so much Diane,Im glad there is nothing wrong, thank you

Answer
Hi Taylor,
We all worry about all the critters..and it is important to notice any little changes with them because they can be sooo tough when it comes to showing pain, etc.
You are a good care taker... you care and you have a big heart for your pets. If Everyone would pay half as much attention to their pets as you do, there would be a lot less problems that have gone on too long to help their pets.
As always, glad to be able to help you out and put your mind at ease.
