Question
I have a green anole and when I got him he was already big, I have had him for over 1 year. Yesterday I noticed a small knot on the side of his head and last night before going to bed I fed him which he did eat ok, but I also noticed that 3 of his legs were swollen and he was just scooting around so not really walking good, I just checked on him and to give him some water and his eyes are a bit droopy and his legs haven't gotten any better. Please let me know what is possibly wrong with him and if there is something I can do to help him.
Thanks, I'd greatly appreciate any help from you.

Answer
Hello Emily,

Have you been using a UVB light for him?  An anole does need full spectrum UVB lighting to ensure his bones stay strong & that he can absorb his calcium & synthesize D3 well.
Scooting along sounds like metabolic bone disease which can be crippling.
Do you use calcium supplementation as well, on a regular basis several times per week?
The best UVB light you should get for him would be the Reptisun 10 flourescent tube bulb.  That in conjunction with his basking light is good lighting for him.  He will need to be within 8 inches of the UVB light.
The swelling is caused by metabolic bone disease most likely, or it could also be pre gout syndrome too.
What are the temps that you keep him at, & what do you use to measure the temps?
