Question
QUESTION: hi diane,
here are the other links of the items ive looked at.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Exo-Terra-Digital-Vivarium-Thermometer-For-Reptiles_W0QQit

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GEKO-Reptile-Digital-Thermostat-Heat-Controller-BN_W0QQite

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/HABISTAT-DIMMING-THERMOSTAT-WITH-DAY-NIGHT-FACILITY_W0QQit

i know it may seem a silly question, but which of the thermotmeters would you choose, and which of the thermostats?

Kind regards
Ann

ANSWER: Hi Ann,
I like the thermometer you sent me in the separate question. The one that was smaller and had the two probes.
On the thermostat,(which only NON LIGHTING lights can be plugged into IE: Ceramic heat emitter or heating pads) is the one you can set for day and night..the Habistat one.
Not a silly question at all!!!
Also, as to your temperatures varying so little..
do you have the basking area on one end?
Are you sure you are converting to Fahrenheit correctly?
One other thing...IF you are using the stick on dial thermometers, and your viv is glass...IF your basking bulb is close to the side of the tank, it will heat the glass, which in turn will cause the temperature of the glass to rise, causing the thermometers to give false readings since the glass would be heating up, causing the spring that opens in the back on the thermometer to open(higher reading).  Hope you understand what I mean..lol..hard one to describe.

QUESTION: this is a picture of the viv, i can also send two more if you like of the basking end and the cooler end done separately.
I will go for the thermometer with 2 probes, and the habistat dimmer,
kind regards
Ann

ANSWER: Hi Ann,
The picture has helped!! I think I may know what your problem is!!!!
I don't see any vents.  You should have a vent on opposite ends to circulate the air.  Without the air being able to circulate, the heat will just build up inside.  You can cut two round holes about the size of the top of a drinking cup and cover it with a wire or plastic mesh.

QUESTION: hi diane,
just one more silly question, all the crickets keep climbling high on the sides, back and top of the viv,and my beardie cant get them, unless i keep knocking them down,
is there a way to stop this?

regards
Ann

Answer
Hi Ann,
Many people feed their beardie in another smaller viv, such as a 10 gallon aquarium.  This prevents the escaped crickets, etc.
Another method, although not as nice, is to break the hind legs on the crickets, which will make it so the crickets cannot jump, and of course move slower.
