BD Egg Laying

Question
Hi,

My BD is laying egs for the second time.  They are not fertalized.  Last year she had about 30 oer three days.  This time she has had closer to 40 and continues to have 1-3 a day for about a week.  The last ones have not appeared normal as they are very large and yellow and don't seem to have much of a shell.  My BD seems fine and is as active and appears happy.  Have you ever heard of anything like this?  Most people report all of the eggs laid in a couple of hours.

Answer
That is probably because she has the instinct of a good mother and is waiting for a good nesting spot.  To lay eggs this way is dangerous and can result in being eggbound.  You need to have a proper laybox for her and she will lay all the eggs at once.  For instructions on making one:

Thin shells is a sign that she needs more calcium and a new UVB light, a reptisun 10.0 fluorescent tube, to metabolize the calcium.  Liquid calcium would be best in her case, which you can get from her vet.  Also increase her salad and bugs.  Make sure the salad has collards and dandelion greens, and some grated butternut squash.
