Question
Hello:
My first grade class would like to know why our tadpoles (african water frogs) have what appears to be whiskers? If you could inform us that would be great! Thanks!

Answer
GOOD QUESTION ALL!  I had to do some research but here's your answer.  You tadpoles are amoung a unique group of frogs which feed differently than most.  Most tadpoles scape algae from rocks or other surfaces, but your tadpoles use those whiskers to instead filter little bits of food out of the water.  They act almost like fingers to sort through the water and extract food.  Hope this helps!  Have fun.
