Lower jaw color

Question
QUESTION: Hi again. I have yet another question. George shed about 2-3 days ago. About a week ago he first shed his legs and arms. Then he shed his underside, and back. The top of his head and from the base of his tail to the tip has yet to shed. I noticed that he hasn't gotten a bit bigger after shedding, and then I noticed that where he started to shed at, on his lower jaw. His lower lips stick out farther then his upper jaw, and the sides are turning maybe a black color. I can try to upload a picture if that will help.

ANSWER: Hi Will,
Many times you won't notice a growth with one shed.  Many times there is a weight gain though because they gain bulk.
If his face hasn't shed yet, the lower jaw may be getting ready to shed.
If you could load a picture, that may help me greatly.
Are you using a proper source of uvb at the correct distance for George?  The reason I ask is that Metabolic bone Disease can first show up as one jaw being longer.
Also, it just may be the way he is growing right now, if you are using the correct uvb that is.

QUESTION: I am useing the Reptisun 10.00 UVB. His tank is 18" tall. His basking spot gets him to about 10-12" away from the light. It looks as if his lower jaw puffs out farther on the two sides were it is turning a dark color, but the front of it is fine.

ANSWER: Hi Will,
Can you send a picture along? It may be normal colors coming in, and growth, but would like to see a picture.
Your uvb distance should be fine.  Do measure it though to be sure you are not any more than that as that 12 inches the max distance for him to be able to receive good uvb.  I prefer the 10 inches on those tubes.

QUESTION: I sent a picture. It is a bit hard to see, but their are 2 dark colored lines. It is like that on both sides, and at that spot his bottom lip looks to be puffed out farther then his head. I think he is doing ok with the light. Because when I feed him he acts like he is starving, and he runs around a lot.

Answer
Hi Will,
It's hard to really tell in the picture but it looks ok.  The lip may just be he is getting ready to shed there or it can be normal growth. Just keep an eye on it and if it changes to looking sore or way off, then I would get a vet to check it out. Is there any "gunk" (crusty looking)in and around his lips, teeth? If there is, then he may have some mouth rot which will need to be treated and cleaned. Here is a link that you can read more about it and how its treated.

Make sure he has his "salad" available at all times...sounds like he is doing well.
