Question

BubbaBoy
i recently bought a bearded dragon it was a private sale when we pick him up the seller told us he had him for a few years and he wouldn't get any bigger than what he was at the moment which if that is true was the opposite i have heard i was told many times they get to bet upwards of 2 ft long as i hope you can see in this picture he is not even close anyway i later called the seller to get and exact time and he said he got him for his 12 birthday and he was now 18 so it had to be 6 - 6 1/2 years old i find it hard to believe i was trying to find some information and came across info about the rankin bearded dragons and
that there size and color is really the only difference between the two species i was wondering if maybe i was sold a rankin and the seller just didn't know the
difference i hope the picture is good enough if not i got more just let me know thank you so much in advance

also maybe i should give you a setup describtion of his viv its a 75 gallon glass tank a strip light reptisun 10.0 i have two going across to cover the whole tank he has his basking area which get to be 98 ambient and if log which was tested with an infared gun reads 113 and his cool side goes between 78-80 clean water daily fresh veggie dusted with calcium which he loves and crickets every other day approx. 10-12 medium to large which he eats no problem i know not to many people reccomend crushed walnut shell but so far i havent had any problems with it well i hope thats enough info if more is needed let me know if it is a rankin dragon i want to be sure he is getting the care he needs i believe their care to be slightly different that regular beardie also i bathe him every other day for about 10 mins.

Answer
Hi Tabitha,
Rankins generally only get to be 12-13 inches long.  There are normal bearded dragons that do not get as large due to genetics..and poor breeding practices and of course poor past care.
With the Rankins, if I remember right, they don't have the "inflatable" beard like the inland bearded dragon.
There really is no difference in their care.  Both go to a more herbivore diet as they mature. This site seems to have good info.
