Question
QUESTION: Hi, I currently have a female green anole and I think she might be sick. She sometimes extends a white dewlap, she can't climb up the terrarium walls like she use to, she has a rough, brown color, and she spends a lot of time on the ground. Please write back I am very, very worried. :(

ANSWER: Hello Andrew,

What is your tank setup like currently?
Are you using a UVB light source?  Do you supplement calcium on a regular basis?
If you are using a UVB light, what type & brand are you using, a fluorescent tube bulb or a compact/coil light?
How old is your anole?
Can you post a few pictures of her & of your tank setup for me?
What type of thermometer are you using to measure her tank temperatures?  What are her temperatures in the tank right now?
She could have metabolic bone disease or parasites possibly it is hard to know.  I would think about trying to get a fecal done on her to determine if she has worms or parasites which can make her sick.
Also, reviewing your tank setup will help me analyze the situation better.

Thanks.

QUESTION: Hi, I attached a pic of my lizard and my terarium. I use a zoo med brand lamp and light bulb. My anole is about one and a half years old. I use a fluker thermometer and hydrogometer in her terarium. I keep her temp. between 70 and 75 degrees inside. Thank you so much, I am very worried about her and I know you will be a big help, Tracie. Email-

ANSWER: Hello Andrew,

How is your girl doing today?  Any changes thus far?
Is she eating anything right now?  If not, try to get some chicken or turkey baby food to try to feed to her.  Use either a plastic syringe or a plastic dropper & drip it onto the end of her nose & she should lick that off for you.
The light that you are using, that is just a basking light, correct?  I don't see a UVB light.  So, she is going to need a UVB light over her to get her back to health.  It sounds like it could be metabolic bone disease setting in.  If she has no UVB lighting, then she can't absorb any calcium which will lead to metabolic bone disease, over time.
Are you using calcium supplementation for her?
The round stick on types of thermometers are ok for measuring the ambient temperatures & humidity, but in order to measure the warmer portion of the tank, below the basking spot you will need to get either a digital probe or a temp gun.
The best UVB light you can get is the Reptisun 10 tube bulb.  You can get it here:

Let me know how she is doing!  Try to get the baby food as soon as possible to get some nutrition into her.

QUESTION: Hi Tracie. Annie (my lizard is as good as she had been. I also noticed that she has two swollen spots between her eyes and her shouders. She has a few pin head crickets in her terarrium, and yes I do dust the crickets every other feeding time. She only eats if a cricket crawls close to her. I will try the baby food. I will also buy a UVB light. I will also use mmy temp gun for temperature. Thanks. Please write back at

Answer
Hello Andrew,

Yes, please do purchase the Reptisun 10 tube bulb.  Make sure it is placed around 8 inches from her, & directly beside the basking light.  The screen will filter out a good amount of the UVB, so, is there any way that you can mount it underneath of the screen perhaps?
Definitely recheck the temperatures with your temp gun, just to make sure they are optimal for her.
Do you leave crickets in with her overnight?  If so, that is not a good idea, as crickets will bite or chew on your lizard overnight while they sleep.
Do you have a picture of your anole, Annie?  I would like to see the swollen areas on her.
Thanks.
