QuestionSuperSandra,
I have a Russian Tortoise active and in good health. I've had him for 2 yrs, but over the last couple months ~ the first time I pick him up during the day to give him some attention, he'll "urinate" a clear sticky fluid, and sometimes there is a little bit of white goo, but generally it's just clear. (he still sticks his head way out to get a light neck rub, I think he likes a little attention).
He has water in a dish 24/7, and I give him a lukewarm soak once per week.
The little shower he gives me is discouraging me from picking him up or letting other... although it is just a quick rinse to fix. Any thoughts? He hadn't done this for the last nearly 2 years... It was just occassional then.
Thank you!
AnswerI am going to guess here since I do not keep tortoises
I wonder if he is "marking you" as in a sexual practice that males have
Lizards will drag their butts around newly replaced substrate to mark it with their scent but I am not sure if this would be the same kind of thing going on here
I would suggest that you visit a good turtle and tortoise forum and see what they think
I can imagine how much fun that picking him up must be lately
:(
If he is not stressed nor afraid of you then I don't see it as a sign of irritation or displeasure
If tortoises have those emotions-lol
I am sorry that I could not be of more help
