Mediterranean Gecko

Question
QUESTION: I have had a Mediterranean gecko for a year now. I noticed today that he is real white but found in a fetal position. Almost looked like his neck was broke. He was fighting a little when I touched him. It looks like he might be shedding. This is the first time seeing this. Do I need to be worried something is wrong or is this normal thru the shedding process?

ANSWER: Thats seems odd to me at first glance.  But what exactly are you calling a Mediterranean Gecko as there are three species that I know of that go by that common name. Anyway, it sounds honestly like he may have some issues shedding I would do a heavy spray of water and allow it to dry out through the day and see what happens next.  if it doesn't change within a couple more days I would immediately get him to a Vet.  Also if you have the Genus species name that would further clarify and allow to me help you.

QUESTION: He his still pale but I noticed the shedding is done on all parts but his head. His body seems real skinny and I noticed his back has a hump (like his back seems broke or something. It is strange looking. He doesn't move very much. I noticed thru the night he was laying on his back so I thought he was gone but when I touched him he moved to his feet and crawled away slowly. His behavior just seems strange. We have only been feeding him mealworms because the crickets are too big for him and the fruit flies just were everywhere. I have sprayed him and put food in his dish but he hasn't touched it. I just don't want him suffering but I don't know what is going on.

I have attached a picture from the internet of what he looks like before all this.

Answer
It would appear that the gecko has somehow become injured.  I would suggest taking it to a qualified Herp Vet that would be able to run some tests.  It may not be a broken spine but possibly an abscess that could be excised.  Have you been giving calcium and vitamin supplements at all?  It may be that he has not gotten these items and therefore developed some kind of an injury due to this which might be able to reversed. The only thing I can do for you at this time is to once again suggest that you take him to Vet. Also have you been using a UVB producing light during the day.  Please keep me informed as to what happens as I would be interested.

Sorry I couldn't be of a better help to you.
