QuestionI have 20 bearded dragoon eggs they started hatching last night. My pet store guy is not available right now. One started to come out and has stuck his head back in his egg. I am not exactly sure what I should be doing, and the pet guy usally helps me. I need advice on hatching, feeding, and habbitate! Please help
AnswerHi Janet
Congrats on your hatchlings!
Generally babies that do not make it out of the egg on their own do not live of they are helped out by us
Babies should be moved to a large enclosure to start out with paper towel as the substrate and a basking light in the center along with the usual UV tube light
Basking branches should be placed under the spot lamp for them to be at the levels that they need for heat and you need a secure lid so that none manage to climb out and escape
You will have to separate babies according to size if there are any ones that are a lot larger than the others and place them in their own enclosure
Babies should be misted twice per day and you can mist the side of the container/tank for them to drink
They will not eat until after their first shed and can be started on 1/8 inch crickets or meal worms or smaller sized insects if they are very tiny babies
I also leave a very shallow water dish in with my babies
Make sure that there is a temp gradient in the enclosure so that they can cool off but the basking temp under the spot light needs to be 95 to 105 degrees
Other than just keeping an eye on them for bullying and tail or toe nipping their care is pretty much similar to adults except they don't eat greens at that age
Also make sure that their sheds go well
Be prepared once they start eating to go through a whole bunch of crickets each week
I hope that this helps
Any other questions-please write back and I will do my best to help
