Question
Hi Tracie,

I tried to email you this morning but it wouldn't go through, and i hope you can help me with this...

There is a debate going on now at the Reptic Zone about home made wood enclosures. Someone is saying that alot of woods contain Formaldehyde which i know is true, but they cannot say if it will actually harm a beardie or any herp, from long time exposure. I use soft plywood, just the regular plywood, and i will scrap them in a second if i find this will infact harm them in any way. I have found this link but not sure if it will help due to the  fact it's not about herps but about the wood products...http://www.epa.gov/iaq/formalde.html

Any input you may have will be great!

Thank you,

Nancy.

Answer
Hello Nancy,

You are right, some of the woods are pre-treated with formaldehyde bases.  However, just using regular untreated plywood is perfectly safe.  That is what we use.  We just buy a stain & a finish & it looks great.  You will just need to let it offgas & set for 3-4 days.  You could run the lights in the tank to help it set & dry.
Oh sorry!  We moved & my email changed.  I had not gotten to everyone to let them know about my email change.
Here is my new email:  Drache613@cfl.rr.com
