Question
Hi,
We're moving our Bearded Dragon into a large permanent enclosure.  It has a plywood floor and we will use fine sand as the substrate. We have all the proper lights and know all the correct temptures we need. Question: Will a human heating pad provide heat through a 3/4" plywood floor covered with 1 1/2" of sand?  This is just to provide a comfortable place to sleep. We live in snow country and the house gets down to about 50 at night.
Thanks,
Lawrence

Answer
Hi Lawrence,

I doubt the human heating pad alone with provide sufficient heat for your beardie at night.  It might make the plywood warm, but won't do anything to help with ambient temperatures in the cage.  I would use a ceramic heat emitter, which emits heat and no light over the area that he sleeps. I prefer the long nect type over the more bulb type of the CHE.  You can also use the heating pad on the floor as you describe just to have a warm "belly" area.
