Question
my bearded dragon is 11 months old and lives in a large tank with plenty of things to climb hide ect. i have recently noticed that all his nails and curling downwards and are nearly touching his legs, his walking doesn't seem to be affected by them.  should i cut his nails or leave them alone? this must be very uncomfortable for him

Answer
Hi Fiona,
Since his nails are so long, the quick(vein) is most likely long inside of the nail.  You may want to take him to a vet to have them done a time or two. When the vein is nicked, they tend to bleed lots.  If you feel secure in doing them yourself, you will have to take a small amount off at a time.  You should be able to see the vein in the nail and you just want to stay away from it.   As you trim the nails  a few times, the vein will recess back, allowing you to get the nails to the proper length.  Trimming them once a week or every two weeks would be a good thing to keep them where they need to be. When they get long as you describe, it hinders their ability to grasp when they climb and can cause him to fall.  Do have quik stop or other blood stop on hand if you decide to tackle the job yourself.  A vet would most likely try a dremel(grinder) to get the nails short, if your beardie allows it.
