Green Anoles not eating

QUESTION: I just got two green anoles and they have not been eating. I have had them for about a week or so and never eat any crickets i give them; they usually will just bask by my heating lamp. Is this normal for the first few weeks?

Could you run over your tank setup with me, such as the type & brand of your UVB & the type of basking light?
What are the temperatures running in the tank & what type of thermometer do you use?

They will go through an adjustment period usually & it can last for a few weeks.  
Are they two males or two females or a male & female?

Are you using sand as a substrate or paper towels or non adhesive shelf liner?  

They are tropical & need a little bit of humidity with a moderate basking temperature, of around 85-90 max with a cooler end of around 78-80. Be sure their nighttime temperatures don't fall below 65 or so.  The humidity needs to be 60-70% for maintaining optimal health.  

How large are the crickets, smaller than the space between the eyes?  Have you tried mealworms or phoenix worms?

QUESTION: I have a male and female anole and they have just started eating yesterday! I have a 10 gallon tank, a 100w basking bulb from National Geographic, The crickets I have fed them are smaller than between their eyes, I am using loose coconut fiber substrate, and I have 15w 18" tropical fluorescent UVB bulb from All Things Living yet to set up. I will set up the UVB bulb soon and get them the proper lighting they need and also try meal and pheonix worms. Thanks for your advice!

ANSWER: Hello Eric,

That is wonderful they started eating now!
As long as they are not ingesting the coconut fiber then you can keep it in.  Be watchful to make sure that they don't get impacted on it.
I hate to say, but the All Living Things tropical UVB fluorescent tube isn't very good.  It has virtually zero UVB emissions.  See if you can get a refund or trade/exchange that for either the Reptisun 5 or 10 tube or the Arcadia D3 12%.  Steer clear of the Reptiglo tubes by Exoterra, their UVB spectrum isn't very good, either.

If you have any pictures, that would be great to see them!  :-)

QUESTION: They are doing great! I am curious how important the UVB fluorescent tube is to a green anoles health. I know it helps the lizard's bone health but is it necessary for a starter lizard such as the green anole?

Hello Eric,

That is great they are doing so well!
The UVB is very important to anoles, as well.  They can & will develop metabolic bone disease if they are not exposed to UVB lighting as that helps in the D3 synthesis & absorption of other vitamins & calcium.
I would definitely recommend getting either the Reptisun 5 tube at the least, or the Reptisun 10
tube, for optimal health for their future.

I am happy that they are both adjusting wonderfully.  Do you have any pictures of them yet?
